What is this charity event all about?
It's about raising awareness to the single use plastic society we have become.
It's an event to encourage and inspire people to keep the oceans healthy!
It's a topic very close to the heart of Sandy Maya as a person:
I grew up by the sea, my partner grew up by the ocean, we currently live in England which is also surrounded by the sea.
All life originated from the sea and we need to respect and protect it.
I thought it would be a great idea to combine my passion for dance with my passion for the sea and wildlife by organising a charity event which would make people aware of our current way of life and how it's harming the environment. At the same time it's about opportunities to make a difference, not only by raising money for organisations who care about our oceans but to make a difference as individuals in our every day lives. We did however raise £400.00 for "Whalefest", now called "Incredible Oceans" at last year's event.
It's about education and learning what changes can be implemented to create less plastic pollution. There are alternatives to many items we use on a day to day basis. It's about changing our ways to help the planet recover from the impact of our ignorant overuse of plastics. We need to find more sustainable ways in so many aspects. But if we all just make a small change each, we all can make a big difference.
Last year, I hosted the very first Dance for Clean Oceans event and the response to it was phenomenal with guests asking when the next event was going to be. I planned the event carefully with the date 8th June, which is "World's oceans day" in mind.
The event was to run on a Sunday as close to that date as possible.
In 2017 that was the 11th June
In 2018 it was the 10th June
In 2019 it was the 9th June
In 2020 was an online FB event on the 7th June
In 2021 another online FB event on the 6th June
In 2022 the event is schedule to happen on the 5th June
Sandy Maya's Dance will continue to host Dance for Clean Oceans events, hoping to get everyone to #take3forthesea whenever we head to the beach and more importantly to pay attention to what is made of plastic and what other alternatives there are.
Every little helps and your involvement will not only help this cause but also delight others with a performances and a raffle!
I look forward to having you at this wonderful event!
